Meet Your Trainers

Hi, I’m Kim.
I’m a boy mom to two amazing sons and bonus mom to three more. And if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s this…
Being a teenager today is hard.
Harder than I think many adults realize.
Our kids are growing up in a world of constant comparison, nonstop pressure, social media, uncertainty, and expectations that seem impossible to meet. They’re expected to have confidence, manage stress, make good decisions, bounce back from failure, and somehow know who they are—all while their brains are still developing.
I don’t just read the research about what’s happening to our teens.
I live it.
I’ve sat in the doctor’s offices. I’ve had the hard conversations. I’ve watched my own son, Brady, walk through a mental health crisis, and as his mom, there is nothing that prepares you for that. You want to fix it. You want to take the pain away. And when you can’t, you start asking yourself a different question…
What if we could give our kids these skills before they need them?
That question became Building Mental Fitness™.
For more than 25 years, I’ve worked with people to help them become more resilient, emotionally aware, and less reactive. I’m a Master Certified Life Coach with certifications in Applied Positive Psychology, Positive Intelligence®, and wellbeing coaching, but if I’m honest, some of my greatest lessons haven’t come from certifications.
They’ve come from being a mom.
They’ve come from the mistakes, the tears, the victories, the late-night conversations, and the moments when I realized our kids don’t need another lecture—they need practical tools they can actually use when life feels overwhelming.
My passion for this work is also deeply personal. In 2013, I lost my younger brother, Chad, to bipolar disorder and suicide. His loss changed my life forever and strengthened my belief that we have to stop waiting until someone is in crisis before we teach them how to care for their mental health.
I believe mental fitness should be just as normal as physical fitness.
We teach kids how to train their bodies.
We teach them how to study for a test.
We teach them how to drive a car.
Why aren’t we teaching them how to manage their thoughts, regulate their emotions, build resilience, and believe in themselves?
That’s why I created Building Mental Fitness™.
Not because I think I have all the answers.
But because I’ve lived enough life to know our kids deserve better than having to figure it out alone.
I’m so grateful you’re here, and I can’t wait to walk alongside you and your family.

Teen Ambassador and Building Mental Fitness™ Contributor
Being a teenager today isn’t easy. I know that because I’ve lived it.
I’ve questioned my worth, struggled with confidence, dealt with bullying, compared myself to everyone around me, and battled body dysmorphia. I’ve also walked through some really hard mental health challenges that made me wonder if things would ever get better.
What I discovered is that change doesn’t happen overnight, and it doesn’t happen because someone tells you to “just be positive.” It happens one choice at a time. One conversation at a time. One small step forward at a time.
Today, I’m in a completely different place than I was just a few years ago. Life isn’t perfect, but I’ve learned how to take care of my mind, work through difficult moments, and ask for help when I need it. Those are skills I wish someone had taught me earlier.
That’s why Building Mental Fitness™ means so much to me.
I’m not here because I have life all figured out. I’m here because I know what it’s like to struggle, and I know what it’s like to slowly find your way back. If sharing my story and the tools that have helped me can help even one teen feel less alone, more confident, or more hopeful, then it’s worth it.
My goal is simple: to help teens realize that their struggles don’t define them, asking for help is a sign of strength, and with the right tools, they can build a life they’re genuinely excited about.
I’m grateful to be part of that journey.
